Study of Dho, Dolpa- settlement at the highest altitude

Dho is located in Dolpa district of Karnali Province. It is surrounded by Charka Tangsong RM in the east, Shey-Phoksundo in the west, Kaike and Charka Tangsong RM in the south and China in the North. Dho Tarap valley is located at an altitude of around 4,100 metres from sea level and is one of the highest human settlements in the world.

The main objective of the study was to prepare the development plan of the study area which would identify contextual identity with existing morphology, including prioritization of the development projects to enhance the present condition of the area. Data and information on the study area were collected from different sources. Primary data was collected from site observation, key informant survey, reconnaissance survey, and field inspections. Key informant interviews were held with rural municipality head, ward chairperson and local experts in business, tourism and agriculture. The details of typical buildings in the study area were collected to understand the local indigenous knowledge of vernacular architecture and its sustainability.

Based on the study, Cultural Center with Museum was proposed for enhancing the cultural and tourism activity in the place. A detailed project report of Cultural center with Museum was prepared. Some pictures of the proposed infrastructures are shown below.
